Happy New Year!

Susan has spent the holiday season painting her brains out! There are three new packets for sale this month in our catalog.

Susan has created a new pattern packet that features the flowing vines and curlicues inspired by antique Russian decorative art motifs. "Russian Floral Box" is a circular medallion pattern featuring vivid reds and blues with metallic gold accents. Step-by-step written instructions are positioned next to progression photographs in a "hold your hand" teaching style. Color charts, basecoating photographs and diagrams, and excellent close up photography complete the packet of instruction. A chart for an alternative paint palette using DecoArt Americana Acrylics is included.

The "Folk Art Tote" is a classic design that has been resurrected and reformatted using the digital production process that is explained on the pattern packet page.

"Kashmiri Floral Egg Box" will appear in the April 2006 Decorative Artist's Workbook. This design, painted on a wooden egg box and three small goose eggs using the popular decorating palette of Chinese blue and yellow, explores a floral medallion motif with latticework and scrollwork accents. The article features techniques for painting eggs with a craft lathe. You can find the craft lathe on the accessories page in the catalog. Also on the accessories page, we have recently added India ink artist pens by Faber Castell and mechanical pencils loaded with flesh-colored UniColor chalk for use on painted surfaces.

"Peace Dove Tree", originally featured in the December 2005 issue of PaintWorks Magazine, is a holiday design that features 10 stylized doves painted on a deep tomato red faux-finished wooden cut-out tree.  Antique gold "Peace" lettering and detailed shading add elegance to this design created for advanced beginner painters. More detailed photographs and instruction are provided in the packet than was seen in the magazine.
