2008 SEMINARS

The past year has been filled with many new and exciting opportunities in the fields of commercial art and licensing for SKS DESIGNS. Try as we might, it is simply impossible to “do it all” AND do it well. For that reason, Susan has decided to take a sabbatical from teaching in order to concentrate her energies on creating a comprehensive portfolio of new design work. The seminars listed below will be the only classes offered for the foreseeable future.

NEW! Check out our SKS Scrapbook, which features photos from this year's classes.

Delftware Bombay Box

Penwork Tea Box

Date: March 29-30, 2008
Projects: Delftware Bombay Box and Penwork Tea Box

The DELFTWARE BOMBAY BOX is a one day project exploring the acrylic painting techniques used to simulate Dutch earthenware. Demonstrations include the “petite lac” method of basecoating, sable brush detail painting, and color enhancement floating.
The one day PENWORK TEA BOX project demonstrates the process used in creating a modern day version of Edwardian style penwork. While the design is highly detailed, use of contemporary pen and ink products, as well as faux wood finishes, actually make this an easy project to create!
Bonus patterns will be given to students in each class, as well as alternative color palette suggestions. Both classes are designed for decorative painters of all skill levels.

Face Painting Seminar Angel

Date: May 3-4, 2008
Project: Face Painting Techniques

Two day technique course in face painting geared to the ADVANCED BEGINNER decorative painter. A new angel project has been designed specifically for this class to teach the fundamentals of face painting. It features a lovely angel with outstretched wings, ornamental collar and jeweled head piece. Discussion and demonstration of several different painting methods commonly used to create realistic looking faces will be covered during this two day seminar.

CHOICES, CHOICES, and did I mention CHOICES ?!……..

CHOICE OF COLORS: The student will be provided a list of various color combinations for hair, eyes and collar allowing them to tailor their piece to their own style preferences.

CHOICE of PAINTING SURFACES: You may choose any surface you like on which to paint this pattern. You will be provided the 8.5” x 14” angel line drawing pattern, which you may enlarge or reduce to fit the surface of your choice.

DecoArt will be providing paint for in-class use, but basecoating paints will need to be purchased by the students themselves. The fee for the instructional materials includes: a class prep packet with full size basecoating pattern, a detail line drawing pattern, color basecoating photograph, and full written instructions for preparing your piece. Student notebooks will then be provided the first day of class that includes color photographs, full written instructions and step-by-step color worksheets for the project, as well as figure drawings and materials covering the various aspects of face painting.

Please join us for what will be Susan’s final seminar for the foreseeable future.
