Susan K. Stamilio is a decorative artist living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. Frequent moves during her marriage and her husband's nearly 40 years with the US Army have allowed the two of them to live all over the world, providing the perfect opportunity for Sue to study and gather research and inspiration from a large variety of decorative art forms.
Formal training in fine art has positioned Susan to work professionally in the fields of commercial and scientific illustration, architectural drafting, graphics and printing, portrait work, and theater arts. Her decorative art has been featured at the White House for several special occasions. The State Department and White House have both commissioned pieces to be presented as gifts from sitting US Presidents to foreign dignitaries and friends.
Susan has authored several decorative painting books, and a large library of pattern packets, and numerous designs for instructive painting magazines while teaching seminars around the world to students of all skill levels. Her work has been featured in decorative art exhibits in the United States, Australia, Germany and Japan.
In 2008, Sue took her initial baby steps into the magical world of computer driven image manipulation and pattern development, and began licensing her designs with fabric and giftware manufacturers to include Amia, Studio E, Robert Kaufman and OESD.
While travel and old world art have certainly left their mark on Sue's design sensibilities, the single greatest source of inspiration still centers around her lovingly supportive family and circle of friends. They are quite simply the heart and soul of her life and work. Many a creative project has sprung from the hours spent chatting over a shared meal, an impromptu party with neighbors, or one of the frequent treasure hunting "field trips" to some point of interest around the world.
